ONAB was created by the French Agriculture Ministry and implicates different actors : the Livestock Breeding Institute (Insitut de l'Elevage (IDELE)), technical veterinary groups, the veterinary schools in Nantes, Toulouse, Alfort and Lyon, Eliance and its member companies, Races de France, breeding selection organizations and testing companies.

It is coordinated by Cécile Grohs (INRAE) and Stéphanie Minery (Institut de l’Elevage).

If you observe a congenital defect, whatever its origin and even if its origin is unknown, we encourage you to declare with ONAB. You can contact your veterinarian or breeding technician for more information.

The National observatory for bovine genetic diseases needs your help to identify the appearance of new diseases and prevent their spread as soon as possible.

To do this, please provide as much information as possible so that we can identify the genetic origin, determine the cause and if possible identify the gene responsible.

The questionnaire for the declaration of a defect has 11 parts:

  1. Source of the questionnaire
  2. Identification of the animal possessing the defect
  3. General description of the animal
  4. Mucosa, hair or skin defects
  5. Head defects
  6. Body defects
  7. Limb defects
  8. Behavioural or conscience defects
  9. Health and safety environment
  10. Hypotheses of known defects or general comments
  11. Other information available

You can fill out the parts that concern you, however, it would be better to read the integrality of the questions that appear when you click on yes, if this is the first time you are filling out the questionnaire.

Most of the questions are the results of numerous hypotheses, but not all of them concern you: that is why it will only take 5 minutes to fill out the questionnaire.

Before beginning, make sure that you have the identificatio of the affected animal on hand.
We thank you for your participation in this collective endeavor !
