Declaring a disease

Declaring a genetic disease, instructions

The National Observatory for Bovine Genetic Diseases needs your help to identify the appearance of new diseases and to manage them as quickly as possible.

If you witness a congenital defect or with differential expression, whatever its origin or even if its origin is unknown, please describe the case using the on-line ONAB form and send it to the contacts indicated below. We encourage you to contact your veterinarian, a breeding technician or an inseminator. They probably will have experience in declaring cases and will be able to help you.

1. Déclarer l’anomalie

2. If possible, please take digital photos

which you can send by email to: contact.onab@inrae.fr

3. Join 1 or 2 tubes of blood EDTA, 1 ear biopsy, or even a piece of tongue taken before rendering - to be frozen before being sent!

In particular for the following diseases:

At least for the diseases that are the object of a research program currently underway, send 1 or 2 tubes of blood EDTA (purple cap, shake thoroughly to avoid freezing), or an ear biopsy, or a piece of tongue if the animal is dead, along with the declaration form and contact the persons indicated below:

These samples will be used for research programs in order to identify the genetic cause of these declared diseases. By sending these tubes, the breeder agrees to their use for research purposes.
